• BHP was again busy today. Wow, it got warmer than was forecast this afternoon. Shoulda gone in the a.m. But Esker trail still had more good-enough-to-keep-going spirit than my kids did. We gave it 5/10. A mix of sticky and slushy with a bit of slippery and occasional grass etc. No ponds or big muck though. Lift a ski here, swing off the trail a…[Read more]

Thanks for the update Harvey. I’d never skied at Wildwood so gave it a try. Some places were too icy, others too soft, others too watery, but some stretches were just right. Classic tracks looked done. Skating will probably be done after tomorrow. Saw two others skate skiers out before dinner too.

Went for an evening skate at about 9 pm and 1 degree. It was pretty good! If you want to be picky, the track was a wee bit chewed from the skating, poling and a few boots when it was very soft in the afternoon. And there are a few thin/wet spots. But overall very good. A little icy, but edging wasn’t bad. Lights were on too. The river crossings…[Read more]

Heard a report from Friday March 20th the tracks were icy and pretty much non-existent. Elsewhere would be better consider the fresh grooming at Windsor, Bird’s Hill and other places. Too bad we didn’t get the snow that had been forecasted.

  • Skate last night was very good, just a little of on the firm & icy side. Drifting etc. was very minor. That will change as we get new snow and high high winds, but the tracks are Windsor are in nice condition.

Skied at Hecla last weekend (March 13-14). Tracks had enough fresh snow and were in very good shape. Not sure if they’ll get the snow we’re expecting in the south now, or if it will be groomed again, but tracks are in good condition and it seems like a decent destination for last season skiing.

    • Last year this time we found the west/inland trails at Gimili to be great as well. We didn’t get the chance to drop in this trip, but assume they are good late season and may still go!

  • Late season kudos to the Gimli XC Ski Club! Wasn’t really planning to ski today, but on our way home from Hecla, we pulled in to take a peak at the W side trails, never been there before – stove was on, cabin was neat, maps were there, the tracks were fresh & perfect, -3 and big flakes falling, so we couldn’t resist!! Tracks were mid-winter…[Read more]
