  • Skied Lester Beach access, then Boulder Hill trail, then South Beaver Pond trail, back to Lester – 11k total. No recent grooming but trails are in pretty good condition. Definitely skiable and lots of fun!

  • The West side trails are in good spring shape! The grooming has held up well: the classic tracks are shallow but consistent (best on Fox Den and Jackrabbit). I didn’t have amazing kick, but double poling was great. Skating conditions were excellent! I couldn’t have asked for better. No walking damage at all.

There’s still plenty of snow cover…[Read more]

  • 7-9pm- Classic trails are mostly icy, but I found them not too bad by using my skate skis and double poling. Could be way faster if they were groomed. GUR was mostly a mix of crusty ice, fossilized x patterns, boots and a squiggly fat bike line. Just hard to always focus on balance. Would be world class skiing if the groomer would come out. The…[Read more]

  • From Al Stewart on Thursday afternoon:
I skated the Group Use Road this morning and found mid winter conditions at 9:30 am.
    – 12c temp, soft and cold snow made for a slow ski. The glide did improve as the temp climbed and a few more folks helped flatten the track a bit. But honestly who would expect to find a ton of cold glide wax snow on March 31?

Pine Falls reports that new snow has covered the debris in the tracks and trails should be good till next Tuesday.

  • Don’t put away your skis just yet. We were pleasantly surprised to find almost 2 inches of FRESH snow and grooming in progress on the WEST side trails. The groomer said the EAST side trails were not groomed and would likely not get groomed for the rest of the season. The 5 km skate deck looked very good. The grooming should set up nicely…[Read more]

  • Bluestem Wednesday afternoon. Used our Salomon skin skis. Surprisingly very good grip and glide. Basically skier tracked with the new snow over the harder ice tracks. Double skier tracked the whole way around. No walkers on Bluestem but asked several walkers not to walk on the Chickadee.

  • Birds Hill Park, Wednesday 11:00 to 1:30, -4°, classic.
The ice and ice-snow was covered with 2 to 5 cm of really nice new snow. The trails were in various stages of skied-in.
Aspen was very good, especially Chickadee to the Stables (under the power lines), which was excellent.
West Bluestem was excellent … so good that I skied it once in…[Read more]

    • typical ungroomed slippery depressing ankle killing trails. Could be so different if the only this dammed park would groom. Got enough snow to last till May for petes sake. Whats with these stupid park people? At least groom the skate track with one pass already.

  • Fresh , icy snow overnight was groomed this morning. Results were surprisingly good. Skate trails are in Excellent condition, Classic is 6/10. Brent’s Loop, Graveyard, Blue Oval, and all of Green (Sheepdip,Backslide, Bonivital and Homestretch) are also in great shape. [Report as of 11:30AM Wednesday, March 30]

  • I went to ski BHP today.
I did Aspen – I’d rate the Aspen cc ski trails as decent. There were a lot of areas that I’d rate as a 7/10 for spring skiing (skier made trails and icy but not bad), but the leaves are starting to show in a few places and there are a few holes in deeper snow areas, so you had to be careful.
    I also did Bluestem – and…[Read more]

    • Please be more critical of the park and its lack of grooming. If we keep patting them on the back like this, they will get worse and worse.

  • Windsor Park Nordic Centre, Monday afternoon 1:00 to 3:30, -2° to 0°. Skiers on the trails: 4 classic & 14 skate (including me).

Grooming was in progress when I started. The skate track was extremely firm and almost solid ice-snow in the ungroomed places. The Ginzugroomer was able to create a surface ranging from “scratched” to a cm of sugar s…[Read more]

Some skate trails renovated Sunday: Skater’s Waltz and Oak Meadow. When the temperature rises a bit they should be quite good.

We figured the Pine Falls trails would still be skiable… and we found them much better than skiable! The club had groomed while it was warm, then received some fresh snow and groomed again: the result is deep firm tracks with lovely fresh snow texture. The Entrance Hills and Sunshine Hills are closed off for the season, but the Chalet Hills were g…[Read more]

So, curious to see what the cold snap had done to the trails, I arrived at the park around noon Mar26, to the Chickadee parking lot which was dirt on the west side and packed frozen snow mounds on the other, but easily accessible by my sedan.
The Aspen trail to the stables parking lot was skier packed dual track, and back west to the Bluestem.…[Read more]

Hey Laura… Does that description include the skate trails? Or some of the skate trails?

  • Laura McMaster posted an update in the group Group logo of BittersweetBittersweet 6 months ago

The groomer took advantage of the cold temperatures and tried some renovations. The results are good to fair but definitely skiable!!! Only eastern trails are open and can be accessed from either trailhead. Do not attempt ungroomed trails: they are icy and dangerous. If we stay off the trails when it’s above zero we might get another week of skiing!

So, curious to investigate what Monday’s rain and high temps might have done to the conditions, I, ER,and AD hit the trails at noon. Debriefing skiers coming off the Aspen and Bluestem reported icy conditions at first with rapid softening,
On our ski on Esker and the Chickadee northern loop revealed soft tracks with a phenomenon never experienced…[Read more]

Birds Hill Park, Wednesday morning, -1.5° to +1°, skate ski on the Group Use Road.
The track surface was a mess of footprints, deer hoofprints, a kick-sled that created two thin 5 cm deep ruts and boot divots, and horizontal washboard/corduroy (which was actually the best part of the track’s surface).
At 8:00 AM, the track was a thin icy layer o…[Read more]

I’d call tonight the 7-11 scat ski, as it was like skiing in a Slurpee with animal poop all over. The trail was incredibly soft, and the black diamond areas were underwater. I’m assuming they’ll be putting up signs tomorrow about that. Somewhat firm areas were relatively fast, and the Toko green binder trick worked quite well. Hopefully, with the…[Read more]

    Hi All,
The rain today melted away the snow. Time to hang up our skis. It has been a great year. See you next year.
