Has anybody been out since the ” big thaw”? I am concerned that the trails have gotten icy and dangerous. Looking forward to some news.

Saturday, -10° to -4°, sunny, windy but it’s a dense forest.
The week-old public health orders permitted the first weekend day trip / practice for the Charleswood Ski Club. 18 of us in 4 groups. Great temps / snow / tracks / people.
There were fewer people on the trails today than on the two Saturdays we skied at Sandilands in January. I don’t k…[Read more]

A reliable source has told me:
A short stretch of the Red trail has been impacted by one snowmobile. It entered the trail from Access Road #20 and exited 500 metres later at the northernmost hydro line. The damaged section is still very skiable. The classic track beyond it to the end of the trail is as good as the track from the start of the trail…[Read more]

On Thursday evening my friend told me he had just talked to Reg the groomer. Reg skied today and says the trails are in good shape and we’ll have a good time when we ski at Sandilands on Saturday.

We basically skied the perimeter of the trails, green, yellow, blue and black. We found the tracks were firm and fast and we floated through the trails on our skin skis. There were a couple of thin spots on some of the steeper hills, but overall we found the conditions were excellent. We saw no evidence of snow machine or walker damage.…[Read more]

    From Edward Zwingerman on Sunday:
Jan. 30th skied High Lake trail. Just groomed, snow was great and hills powdery. Skied some other trails on the other side of the highway which were just being groomed. Great job by the groomer. Looked good for classic and skaters. Trails well utilized but not crowded.

Skied today- classic trails are in great shape. If you’re doing skate ski, I recommend doing a loop of the trail numbers 1,3, 4, 6 and 2 (9.3km total). You can cut in on trail 5 off of high lake to make it shorter, but it’s multi-use and there is heavy foot traffic which makes it a bit sketchy on skate skis. There’s some foot traffic on Pierre’s…[Read more]

    • Update- the rest of the trails were groomed last night, and there was a couple of inches of snow overnight. It’s beautiful out there

From Andy Dwilow on Saturday afternoon:
Outstanding classic and skate grooming with terrain. Thx for great day.

Sandilands trails this afternoon were faster than we expected. Black and gray trails were in great condition. Green, while more used at the N end, was in good shape except for one hill on the NE side. Although we enjoyed skiing yellow, it looks like someone drove there before the most recent snow. It needs grooming.

From Al Stewart on Monday afternoon:
I skied classic on 15km of trail at Falcon Ridge at noon today. A bit slow because of all the new snow and -20C temps, but still very skiable. Simply superb scenery, especially on the High Lake Trails.
    So beautiful!

Saturday afternoon Sandilands was very busy with skiers of all ages. The trees were beautifully laden with frost and snow, and the trails were expertly groomed, although a bit thin on some hills (more snow please!). We then skied the yellow and blue trails at popular Quarry Oaks, and found the grooming to be near perfect. Lots of skiers out today…[Read more]

    Saturday, -12° to -8°.
Green, Black, Black Extension, Grey, Grey Connector, Purple, Yellow:
Excellent … except Yellow from the wicked descent to near its north trailhead, which is fair — big rocks lurking under the snow on the wicked descent, very high and choppy snow-grabber tracks in the low area. Skiing Yellow from its south trailhead to t…[Read more]

Sandilands was all groomed Jan. 15th. Except the Red. And Blue is still not open. Otherwise, groomer said he used the snow grabber and set a nice track.

Skied Green and Black trails Friday afternoon. Met groomers doing a great job of re-setting tracks.
Hills were icy and hard packed.

Skiid part of the green, the full grey, part of the purple and the grey connector Sunday. Lots of walkers leaving as we pulled out with sleds but the ones I saw on the trail were walking along the side and there was little evidence of trail damage from walkers.

The trails are pretty blown out from heavy use. Reg (the groomer) said he’d be…[Read more]

Sandilands, Red & Grey & south Green & Black. -4° to 0°. Lots of skiers. A very good day of skiing for the 5 of us. The “snow grabber” grooming results in an elevated track, which initially feels a bit weird, but it certainly creates very good tracks from not much snow.
Floyd skied Red a couple hours after us. He told me he encountered two w…[Read more]

Skiied Thursday and Friday and I couldn’t believe how good it was considering the low amount of snow! Great job by the grooming crew as usual. I didn’t run into any hikers except when leaving the 404 lot. They were heading down yellow /blue with a tobbagan. I didn’t get into it with them but there is a huge need for signage regarding hiking. I…[Read more]

Thursday: The snow grabber worked wonders as the green and black trails were in good shape and rock skis are not required. However half of the yellow trail has been destroyed by an ATV from the road to the blue trail turnoff. There were also 12 hikers on this part of the trail that I had a hard time convincing them of the damage they were doing.…[Read more]

The Red trail was groomed today. I skied the green and conditions were good today, with a few early season issues. Many skiers out – and over half of them had brand new equipment! It’s a skiing boom! Advice for new/beginner skiers – park at the “yellow parking lot” to access flatter, easier terrain. See website for more details about trail…[Read more]

Sandilands Forest trails are groomed. Please check the website for specifics. The groomer was able to track using the snow grabber after about 2-3 inches fell last night.
