From Al Stewart on Sunday evening:
I classic skied the High Lake trail on Sat and Sun this weekend. The trails were beautifully groomed for both classic and skate. Mid winter snow conditions and cold temps in the mornings but bright blue sky and mild in the afternoon. Next weekend should be great as well given the snow depth.

  • Great conditions this weekend. Great job by the groomer to groom twice last week.

  • Sun. 0930 A.M. -12c. Sunny, light wind. West Bluestem very good if not a bit less glide due to lower temp..

  • Sat. 6:10 P.M. -5c. West Bluestem was very good. The small amount of new snow has been worked in and debris lessened.

Post ski report – Trails have been blown in in open areas by the strong winds we had today. All sections in the trees are still in good condition.

  • I was at BHP Fri. 3:30-4:30. You may be bucking a 40-60 km headwind heading up the hill to the tower but the skiff of fresh snow has covered a lot of the debris. Some new stuff coming down but a net reduction in debris. There’s about 1 cm of new snow in the tracks with a little more in open areas.
It looks like a great weekend to hit the trails…[Read more]

Skate trails were groomed today. Classic trails were groomed on Monday. All the trails are in very good condition and ready for the weekend.

  • Today I skied most of the classic trails and everything is groomed and excellent condition. I stand corrected on my previous post. I must have got out skiing before grooming was complete. My apologies if this caused any confusion. Now if we can only get the local deer population to eat all the debris on the ski trails. 🙂

    • We skied Bluestem Wednesday afternoon, and agree with Rob about the debris (c’mon deer!). We found the worst section was the southeast leg from Chickadee to the stables, where there are more evergreen trees.

  • Weds. 08:30 -7c. Did west Bluestem and west Esker.Glide and kick were great. There was a lot of debris but still good stretches. The worst debris was around the cone bearing trees. The stretch of Chickadee from the lot to the tower was awful and will avoid until more snow or a groom.

    • Anita & I were also at BHP this morning. Her review of the classic trails is similar to Eric’s, but she actually fell twice on Aspen when tree debris stopped one ski abruptly. I was skate skiing the Group Use Road on perfect firm corduroy littered with tree debris in some places — especially on the interior bays, with a few stretches of…[Read more]

  • First time posting, so I hope it works.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, I was skiing back Aspen to Chickadee, about 2:00 PM when I came across a group of indigenous people, about eight, walking on the ski trails. One was waving a stick with feathers attached, I asked them had they not seen the sign about walking on ski trails, and that…[Read more]

  • From Syd Jones, Birds Hill Park’s Park Operations Supervisor, on Tuesday afternoon:
Just wanted to let everyone know that all the trails in Bird Hill Park have been groomed over the past 2 days. Come out and enjoy

  • We skied Bluestem, Chickadee, esker and Lime Kiln this morning. Both Chickadee and Bluestem are freshly groomed and nice and fast. Although Esker and Lime Kiln are in good condition they sure could use a fresh grooming. The wind was not much of a factor. Overall, a great day.

From David Lumgair on Monday afternoon:
    Good day CCSki folks,
Gord and Mike have been packing about 10 inches of snow on the trails here.
Yes, the Blue Classic trail is set, but is soft.
The grooming is in progress on the other Skate and Classic trails,
Do ski the trails here, and build your stamina!
Another way to put that is:
    When the goin’…[Read more]

Sun. 6 p.m. -4c. west Bluestem was good.New snow was well worked in.Maybe 2-3 cm, but it did cover up debris. When I finished up at Chickadee lot a huge group of walkers came off the trail.(2-3 dozen)Also a person feeding the deer.

    • thanks for the update. Wow, can these people even read signs? So much for signs. Park signs everywhere. Must be spring breakers. Our education system is a fail.

      • They were mostly young adults.Must have walked to the tower I bet or turned back if someone said something.Guess I will see tomorrow!
