Birds Hill Park, Christmas Day afternoon, -6°.
The Group Use Road has indeed become hardpacked in the middle, but an edging skate ski was able to obtain a bit of bite at -6°. At a very cold temp it would be “boilerplate”. The exterior edge of the road was moderately soft in most places. Enjoyable skiing.
There were at least 6 other skate skiers, and at least 6 classic skiers using the skier-set track on the interior edge of the road, but only two walkers (and they seemed to be careful about their walking line).
In addition to the fairly good track in most places on the Group Use Road, the skier-set tracks on Bluestem and Chickadee varied from good to not-so-good. Beware of a large rock on the descent from the tower on Esker.
