From Andy Dwilow on Wednesday evening:
Today Feb 17. Great snow coverage. Grooming was in progress. Classic track was superb and, although I didn’t skate, it looked good.

From Al Stewart on Monday morning:
I skied Esker twice yesterday in the afternoon on very nice tracks. Not much glide but it was quite ok temp wise skiing in the forest. Probably a dozen other folks out braving the cold.

From Al Stewart on Sunday morning:
A very bright and sunny classic ski at Wildewood on Saturday afternoon. Zero glide as the tracks are shallow, washed out and covered in a layer of fine super cold wind blown snow. There were a few other folks out, mainly on the centre loops.

  • From Edward Zwingerman on Friday evening:
Classic skied Beaver and Squirrel today. Most of the trail was skier tracked, no grooming. Beaver beyond hut now has better snow and more skiable. For some reason the weather scared off most people so we had the beautiful scenery to ourselves.

From Ardythe McMaster on Friday evening:
Bittersweet had 6-7 cm of new snow this week! Both classic and skate trails are now freshly groomed.
Skiers report that the tracks are good, but advise caution on some hills that may have a few wobbles, as our special Yellowstone Tracking Pan, meant for low snow levels, does not have the stability of our…[Read more]

From David Lumgair on Friday evening:
    Good day CCSki folks,
The Blue Classic Trail has been set with Classic  tracks .
There is very occasionally a wee bit of dry grass in the tracks.
The snow is shallow, so use your cautions.

From David Lumgair on Thursday evening:
    Greetings CCSki folks!
Shannondale received more than an inch of snow on Wednesday!
All trails were groomed for skate skiing today, Thursday.
The base was good and now the skate skiing is also good !
More snow is needed for setting tracks on Classic Trails.
Our Ginzu groomers with skimmers make wide…[Read more]

  • From Joanne Podolchuk, Birds Hill Park’s District Park Manager, early on Thursday morning:
Ski trails are in the process of being groomed/track set.  Enforcement staff have been informed of the issues with snowmobile traffic that has been on trails over the last few days.

  • From a reliable source on Monday evening at 10:00 PM:
A snowmobile came in from the west side (Hwy 59) just before the Bluestem cabin. It made some donuts by the cabin and carried on (high speed) cutting corners on Bluestem all the way to the Chickadee parking lot. From there I noticed the tracks heading up towards the tower. I guess we’ll find o…[Read more]

    • Tuesday morning, -8° to -6°:
Anita & I and some friends classic skied east Bluestem, north Chickadee, Aspen, and parts of south Chickadee … and we also talked to a few people. All trails we skied on were very good, except for one part of Chickadee … see below.
The snowmobile damage is not as bad as it could have been.
We were told that west B…[Read more]

    From Edward Zwingerman on Sunday:
Jan. 29th skied Orange trail. Still some grassy and twig spots on the trail. Beautiful snow laden trees with lots of wildlife. The Orange trail is pretty narrow and some hills are tricky so novices may want to try the Red trail.

    From Edward Zwingerman on Sunday:
Jan. 30th skied High Lake trail. Just groomed, snow was great and hills powdery. Skied some other trails on the other side of the highway which were just being groomed. Great job by the groomer. Looked good for classic and skaters. Trails well utilized but not crowded.

From Ardythe McMaster on Friday afternoon:
Bittersweet trails are in pretty good condition, considering the season we are having. Occasional light snowfalls have been worked into the tracks by the skiers over the week, but no grooming has been done. Skiers should enjoy good skiing as long as they pay heed to the trail conditions, and be careful on…[Read more]

From David Lumgair on Thursday evening:
    Greetings CCSki folks!
Shannondale CCSki Trails are in pretty good shape for Skate skiing!
There is a thin firm yet mellow layer of rippled snow on top of the hard base making all trails suitable for Skate skiing. .
When a little more snow arrives, I will then attempt to set some Classic tracks on the…[Read more]

  • From Wayne Cunningham on Wednesday afternoon:
Kildonan Park is not groomed yet.

    • I fully agree with that. Been numerous times this year and if you ask me, I believe they have only groomed once this year so far. Definitely something wrong with that. They used to manage their trails much better in previous years and they even have “Come use our public cross country ski trails” on their ticker sign on main street which one…[Read more]

From Andy Dwilow on Saturday afternoon:
Outstanding classic and skate grooming with terrain. Thx for great day.

  • From Joanne Podolchuk, Birds Hill Park’s District Park Manager, early on Saturday evening:
The groomer will be out this evening. All trails should be groomed / track set barring any equipment issues.  Any skiers out this evening should exercise caution with the groomer on trails.

  • Friday afternoon, -11°. Chickadee, west Bluestem, Esker, Lime Kiln.
~3cm of snow fell overnight. It’s now skied into the tracks. Fairly slow glide.
The Group Use Road appeared to have very few tracks on the new snow, but just as we were finishing, 4 kick sledders were starting.

From Ardythe McMaster on Friday morning:
Bittersweet trails are now re-opened! We have had a few light snow flurries. Sections of trail protected from the winds have well defined, ski-in tracks. Open areas need to be skied in, but fresh snow is everywhere.
Some grooming is planned for Saturday. Cottonwood Classic trails, and the World Cup section…[Read more]

Wednesday morning, -5° to 0°, windy, snowing (heavy at times, 1cm while we were skiing). With a +3° high temp on Wednesday and a bit more wet snow throughout the day, conditions may now be quite different than when we finished at 11:00 AM.
