  • From Melissa Bergen, A/Park District Manager, Birds Hill Provincial Park on Thursday afternoon:
Our groomer went out this morning to try the trails and was unsuccessful. We started to groom Aspen and it was ruining the previous groom as there is just not enough snow. We retracted as best we could over that section, and no other grooming was…[Read more]

    • Lime Kiln and Esker were really fast this morning, then at 12:30 I skied Aspen after the groomer and a few skiers had been on it. Aspen was very good, but not as quick (slick) as the ungroomed trails. Spruce trail is ungroomed, but the groomed GUR had a few V’s on it. The sun and +5C this afternoon may end things soon, so get out & enjoy! Many…[Read more]

Tuesday morning, 1° to 2°, sunny.

Classic — Aspen, Chickadee, west Bluestem: The well-formed tracks were snow, not icy, and the snow was much colder than the air temp.
Skate — Group Use Road, including the two interior bays: The centre of the road was very firm (and fast), but the snow surface was soft enough to edge in and push off f…[Read more]

From David Lumgair on Friday evening:
    Hello ski folks,
    Shannondale welcomes you!
Yes, 2 or 3 inches of snow has fallen very recently, and we groomed it!
The 2 weeks weather forecast suggests 2 days for skiing and then it melts a little every day.
That would be this Sunday and Monday!…[Read more]

From David Lumgair on Friday evening:
The following report is from a family that skied here at noon today. it was melting here. We had a wee bit of snow this afternoon.

    “Hellooooooo!
Northwest up and Northwest down are great. The Wilson Meadow is grass and mud.
Zig zag is great for skate.
    Tempest was mediocre
    The hump is good.
    The knob is…[Read more]

From Ardythe McMaster on Thursday evening:
We were excited to have 4.5 cm fresh fluffy snow on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, it proved just too little to enable a good grooming job, groomer’s skills notwithstanding. Skiers should ski only on trails which have been freshly groomed.

From Ardythe McMaster on Tuesday morning:
Snow is not snow any more, it is ice. Trails are scary fast. All of the west side is closed. All major hills on the east side should be avoided, or walked down. Grass and twigs are showing up in some spots. Skiing on the flats is possible with klister, but even the small hills should be approached very…[Read more]

  • Tuesday late morning, -2°, cloudy. 12 Charleswood Ski Club members in 3 groups..
Classic: Icy to ice. Dirt is showing through in a few places. Good grip with skin skis.
Skate: Icy. It was difficult to push off firmly and maintain good balance, even with my stiffest skis. It got better as more skiers used it …or maybe the snow was warming…[Read more]

Saturday, -10° to -4°, sunny, windy but it’s a dense forest.
The week-old public health orders permitted the first weekend day trip / practice for the Charleswood Ski Club. 18 of us in 4 groups. Great temps / snow / tracks / people.
There were fewer people on the trails today than on the two Saturdays we skied at Sandilands in January. I don’t k…[Read more]

From Ardythe McMaster on Friday evening:
Our groomers have been out all of Friday evening, working to make our trails as good as possible. The trails should set up well overnight, and be ready for weekend skiers.
    Come try them!

A reliable source has told me:
A short stretch of the Red trail has been impacted by one snowmobile. It entered the trail from Access Road #20 and exited 500 metres later at the northernmost hydro line. The damaged section is still very skiable. The classic track beyond it to the end of the trail is as good as the track from the start of the trail…[Read more]

  • From Ed Zwingerman on Friday evening:
Skied Beaver and Squirrel today. Very good conditions. Classic trails groomed except for north Beaver past the hut. Skier tracked and a bit slow, but so am I. Hills are great, fast, but not icy. Conditions don’t look great for skate skiers?
Best ski conditions of the year. Not much debris. Lots of snow.

From David Lumgair on Thursday evening:
    Hello CCskiers,
The weather forecast is for warmer weather:

All trails have a very firm frozen base .
The Blue Trail has set tracks that are holding most of their shape.
    The skate trails will…[Read more]

On Thursday evening my friend told me he had just talked to Reg the groomer. Reg skied today and says the trails are in good shape and we’ll have a good time when we ski at Sandilands on Saturday.

    Thursday afternoon, -12°.
Skate: Moderately firm to moderately soft corduroy on the Group Use Road and its two bays. A+
Classic: Grooming in progress and finishing just as we finished.

  • From Joanne Podolchuk, Birds Hill Park’s District Park Manager, on Thursday morning:
    Trails are being groomed today.

  • From Andy Dwilow on Wednesday evening:
Today Feb 17. Great snow coverage. Grooming was in progress. Classic track was superb and, although I didn’t skate, it looked good.

  • From Al Stewart on Monday morning:
I skied Esker twice yesterday in the afternoon on very nice tracks. Not much glide but it was quite ok temp wise skiing in the forest. Probably a dozen other folks out braving the cold.

  • From Al Stewart on Sunday morning:
A very bright and sunny classic ski at Wildewood on Saturday afternoon. Zero glide as the tracks are shallow, washed out and covered in a layer of fine super cold wind blown snow. There were a few other folks out, mainly on the centre loops.

  • From Edward Zwingerman on Friday evening:
Classic skied Beaver and Squirrel today. Most of the trail was skier tracked, no grooming. Beaver beyond hut now has better snow and more skiable. For some reason the weather scared off most people so we had the beautiful scenery to ourselves.

From Ardythe McMaster on Friday evening:
Bittersweet had 6-7 cm of new snow this week! Both classic and skate trails are now freshly groomed.
Skiers report that the tracks are good, but advise caution on some hills that may have a few wobbles, as our special Yellowstone Tracking Pan, meant for low snow levels, does not have the stability of our…[Read more]
