Bikers are on the trails. I am one of them because of little snow. I guess we need another sign to keep the likes of me off the trails. Are there trails for bikers? Also is anybody finding trouble with the wood at the huts? The wood burns like it is green.
In winter the dedicated classic trails are Chickadee, Aspen, Bluestem, Esker, and Lime Kiln. The group use road is dedicated to skating/skijoring..There is also the Spruce trail from Nimowin road that is a skate/skijoring trail they introduced last year.. Through the winter you will eventually end up finding trail for bikers that cuts across the groomed classic trails all over the park (I know it cuts blestem more than once, and also on Lime Kiln a few times)… As a racing cyclist, I can understand the cycling.. most of the cross country skiers that are at the park are there for recreation, and in all honesty are not expecting a bike to come darting out of the woods, so as a friendly suggestion, slow down before darting across the trails.. this happened to me last year when I came around a corner at a decent clip on the skis only to have a fatbike cross the trail right in front me.. it was a near collision and Im sure I was going to be the one losing… Hiking, biking, pulling your child in a sleigh while walking on the the groomed trails is generally frowned on for obvious reasons.. there is signage at the Chickadee lot which states fines etc, problem is alot of people enter in the trail wherever they want, and actually take offence to being told that shouldn’t be hiking along the cross country trails… The park just needs to enforce the fine a few times and word will get out! Have fun on the trails before the snow comes.. if it ever does?
Thanks for the time you took for the detailed response. For the record I am primarily a skier, although the lack of snow may push me towards biking.
No prob… BHP is a very busy place come weekends.. its just frustrating to have the trails hammered by people who shouldnt be on there, most of the trail reports you will read, great conditions, park has done an awesome job grooming, ran into 5 people walking down the middle of the trails…. I hear ya about the snow.. like anyday now…
