Hi All! Found this page helpful in the past so thought I would join and share my 2c. I took the old fish scales up to BHP today, unsure of what to expect. Followed D Baniak’s tracks, it’s wet snow but really not terrible once you get past where the horse manure is. given it’s only november can’t complain too much. Season’s open, I’d say! All…[Read more]

So,I arrived at the park restaurant bldg at 12:30 with my “talking” skis. Set off on the Esk trail:nobody had been down it. I weaved my way around horse tracks and droppings breaking a trail where it seemed best. By the time I arrived at the junction with Lime Kln the horses were gone and I broke trail on the left side of the trail to the lookout,…[Read more]

So, will this be the earliest start ever, beating the Nov11/12 start?
If the thermometer stays as forecast a historical event may occur.-
Pascal Gariepy skied on Friday and posted it on the A Cross Country Ski Club Facebook group: “Beaudry Park this morning, I had to do it, first one out skiing but very clumpy so skied only 4 km, walked the rest”.
Today’s much colder temp may make it work. Rock skis mandatory.
I skied on October 29th in 2003. Perhaps I’ll beat my personal record today.

So, me and the G-man started today at 9:30 Apr 12 at the stables parking lot. Skied east Bluestem to the lookout, Chick loop, and Esk back to the parking lot. The ski track was very melted and shrunken, with the base of the track collapsing under my skis from time to time. I had decent luck keeping one ski in a track and placing the other…[Read more]

Tuesday, 7:00 to 10:30 AM, -1° to +6°, sunny, Group Use Road, icy to moist, needles and other forest debris reappearing, hoof prints, foot prints, and a kick sledder’s track that sank as deep as 5 cm in many places. Overall, good skate skiing. The current very warm temperatures and forecast rain late this week will accelerate the melting, but I t…[Read more]

I was out at 7:20 a.m. Mon. -1c. Chickadee had lots of footprints so I turned around and did West Bluestem in reverse direction. Still in pretty good shape and icy/crusty at that time of day. Lots of double poling and a very satisfying ski with effortless glide.
Good snow base so who knows how long it will last. -

Great ski Saturday morning on Bluestem, Esker, Lime Kiln and Aspen! Conditions were firm and super-fast when we started, but softening by noon. Lots of skiers out there enjoying the beautiful sunny day, and possibly last classic outing. Hope it cools off enough so the trails will still be skiable!

Friday 6-9pm. Classic tracks good, icy and some side crust in sunny sections, hard snow in shaded. Red wax worked well over a 15 km ski. GUR skate track looked awesome. Not many people out at the best time of evening. Would have stayed longer to do some skate skiing after dark , but did not pack donuts and coffee. Dumb… Fail…

Friday, mid/late-afternoon… classic tracks still excellent.
Thanks park staff and groomers for such a great job!-
We were out this morning and skied in beautiful weather on freshly groomed trails. I would also like to give a big thank you to BHP for making the decision to groom the trails even though there are melting temperatures in the days to come. It’s been a fantastic ski season at Birds Hill – partly due to the weather, partly due to the excellent and…[Read more]

friday 815 am start: lime kiln-esker-eastern aspen. very good to excellent conditions. tracks were impeccable and it was crisp and flowy. best time to go is the (early) morning. although snow coverage is plenty, the warm temps will be turning this into ‘mashed potatoes’ real soon. enjoy while you can !

Birds Hill Park, Monday afternoon, -8° to -5°.
Bluestem, Chickadee, Aspen, Esker, Lime Kiln: 1 cm of fine grained snow fell on the trail system overnight, so the previously icy/ice tracks now have a nice soft surface. Glide is slower than it has been, but it is still good because the new snow is now well skied-in. We really enjoyed today’s s…[Read more]-
Yes, quite the afternoon in BHP. Skate track glide improved a lot probably due to the snow filling in the pores made by all the suns rays and also covered all the dirty snow . West Bluestem was quick. East Bluestem and Aspen seen lots of weekend use and was worn in places. Probably last chance tomorrow for a good ski in BHP , before the…[Read more]

Saturday:
The Group Use Road was very firm at 10:45 AM (-3°, sunny), and still quite firm at 2:45 (-1°, sunny). The surface was extremely flat/level, with some remnants of corduroy from Wednesday’s grooming visible on the edges. The two interior bays were not quite as good. -

830 am start time: bluestem-esker-aspen-lime kiln – early start to a long ski before it got warm and soft. folks it doesn’t get better than this ! all trails good. tracks starting to shallow out a bit (south side) but still lots of sidewall to justify getting out. lime kin especially stunning this morning. started fast and crisp and even later aro…[Read more]

Friday 7-930PM. Tracks are holding up very well, but icy in most places. Definitely klister time.
Did the double pole thing on skating skis, with occasional marathon skate on uphill sections. Worked out well. Skate track is hard . A bit slow by usual spring standards , but still very good . Probably will last til May at this rate of melt . Thnx…[Read more] - Load More
