We skied Pinawa Sunday: a beautiful day! We started with an Orange to JGG to English River to Blue circuit. These trails had received a fair bit of new fluffy snow overnight and that morning, but it had all been skied down (except JGG) by the time we arrived. The grooming from March 4th was still holding up nicely, with deep and firm tracks, and the glide was good. Despite this, conditions weren’t conducive to skiing flat out: it was definitely a day for a leisurely, upright, safe ski. The pole plant zone was getting pretty soft, and at any moment your pole might suddenly sink up to a foot deeper than you were expecting it to! As you can imagine, this made ascending any of the steep ridges especially interesting (and entertaining for your ski buddy). Orange was the worst culprit, but it was happening everywhere. Spring is nigh!
The sunshiny weather and the super fresh grooming on the golf course lured us to ski a lap of these trails too. It was actually my first time ever skiing the golf course in all the years I’ve been skiing Pinawa. (They’re cute, though I prefer the forest.) Skate conditions looked amazing! Classic tracks were overall quite good, though drifting in in a few places, and flattened by the skate groomer in a couple others. We spotted the groomer driving back from across the rock dam, so it’s safe to assume that the Red skate trail (probably classic, too) also received a Sunday touch up.
The skate track on the Pinawa Golf Course is usually amazing.
