Grand Beach has received just a bit of snow since the last grooming, but plenty of folks were out skiing it down today. The snow was fast and the classic tracks are holding up well. The classic grooming is much improved since our last visit. It was all nice smooth curves, with none of those sharp zigs that suddenly kick you off to the side that I was griping about last time.

The skate deck is another story. The trails are gouged from beginning to end by snowmobile or some other tracked vehicle. These ruts were so perfectly consistent throughout the entire trail system that I have to conclude that the groomer intentionally packed it that way…. although I’m not sure why. It didn’t look very appealing for skate skiing (although one or two determined skiers had been out), and the big descents would be sorta sketchy for snowploughing beginners… which is a shame, since they’re so lovely when in good shape.
