Had a good ski at Falcon Ridge on Sunday. Most trails were last groomed on Feb 25th or 24th. There is plenty of snow and we didn’t see any rocks, even where there are signs warning about them.
The classic tracksetting on Craig’s, Barb’s, and Gunter’s Bahn was all quite shallow: particularly on the lake but also in the woods. The classic tracks on the High Lake Trail were deeper and more solid.
Skate conditions looked great on most trails, especially Craig’s and Barb’s which had been heavily skied during Saturday’s biathlon event. There was lots of boot pocking on the High Lake Trail, as this is how people walk in to stay at the eco cabins.
On the lakes, staying on the trail is your best bet right now. Everywhere that snowmobile tracks were visible, you could see that they had bogged down in slush beneath the snow (which has since refrozen). Slush is no fun to run into on skis!
Should add that there is no firewood at the Kaffehus ski shelter… but it was lovely to sit in the warm sun on the front deck overlooking High Lake!
