Pumpkin Creek was a very popular place yesterday! The parking lot was nearly full of skiers taking advantage of the warm weather and the lack of weekend snow. It was gorgeous day.

We skied the full Blue Moon plus Stroll and Easy Street. Were hoping to finally hit the Club Trail but alas, it was ungroomed. The back end of Club had been recently packed by snowmobile, but the front section (where it diverges from Rogers) was invisible under all the snow. I wonder whether that was a prelude to full packing soon…? or if it was a recon trip that got stuck in deep snow halfway, and determined it won’t be feasible to groom?

Conditions on the open trails were great: snow was fast; grooming was good and sufficiently recent. No issue with the track base but the pole plant zone was a little soft in the warm weather, making me with I’d brought my longer skate poles for better double poling.

Similar to the latest Bittersweet post, deer are much preferring to walk the firm ski trails over floundering in the deep snow in the bush, so there is some trampling and lots of poop!
