Trails are skier tracked, for the most park. We parked on 404 and saw a set of tracks heading towards the main trail area. We stuck to the opposite side of the road, and tracked in Yellow (plus some side branches). Saw grouse, deer, purple finches, snow bunting, juncos, wolf tracks, a black-backed woodpecker… As we headed out on our second lap, we heard one of those side-by-side ATVs go past, blaring country music. They completely tore up the Yellow trail, spraying mud all over and leaving deep puddle-filled ruts. It’s one thing to destroy ski trails that are going to melt in a couple days, and quite another to wreak such destruction on a ecological reserve where no motorized travel is permitted.
