Called Rivendell on Dec 21st to inquire about trail conditions. Tim said he had not groomed yet this year, and was waiting on a bit more snow. So instead we skied the Madge Lake trails, just over the Saskatchewan border in the Duck Mountains. These trails are stunning! Plenty of snow, great grooming, excellent signage, big hills, beautiful views, wildlife, four warming huts that also serve as first come first served overnighting cabins… Madge may not be technically Manitoba, but definitely warrants its own thread here on the CCSAM site, just like Minaki or Kenora.
Anita & I have skied twice at Duck Mountain SK on Charleswood Ski Cub long weekend trips.I agree with your comments about the trail system.
The big difference between the Kenora area and eastern Saskatchewan is that the XC ski club located in Kenora is a member of CCSAM, not Cross Country Ski Ontario … for geographic reasons (2 days from Toronto and they are even almost 6 hours from Thunder Bay).
