Skied all the Turtle Mountain trails over Jan 4th and 5th, staying at the James Lake cabin overnight. The trails are beautifully groomed, though an unexpected jog or two made by the groomer on big hills keeps you on your toes. Lots of snow and it was extremely fast on the Friday. Still quick but crisping up by Saturday. The John Lake trail and the south part of Dunseith are not groomed, only packed, but we did the former anyway down to the shelter. We were pretty crushed to discover that the section of trail skirting the US border is closed (wished we had realized this before tracking our way in) but one may be able to connect over to Dunseith via a narrower packed offshoot a bit farther north. All the other trails had been tracked within the past few days. Lovely skiing all round!
