The trails in Sandilands Forest are packed, but are not tracked. The forecasted snow dump turned into a dusting, and as a result, we are waiting for snow in order to track. I just talked to the groomer who indicated that severe erosion from motorized trail users in the past 10-15 years means that a significant amount of snow is needed in order to protect grooming equipment from hooking on roots/rocks, etc… He stated that years ago, you could “drive a Ferrari” down the grassy trails – hard to fathom now, given the current 3-4 foot deep scarring along parts of the trails.
However! Quarry Oaks is groomed for classic, so area skiers can get their fix there.
