  • I’m a new skier so I’ve just been skiing the grid (nice a flat!) Tonight was lovely. Freshly groomed from the snow we got yesterday and crisp cold snow. The clear ski was beautiful.

Spruce trail, skate deck is uneven with lots of debris in the middle portion. Big holes in the snow and rocks sticking through in a couple of places. Some sections were pretty hard to ski because of debris.

  • The Wildwood Trails are in good shape for classic skiing with new snow in the hard tracks. Several skate skiers firmed down the snow on the deck so it hopefully won’t blow away in the forecasted winds this afternoon. Enjoy!

We were at Chickadee lot this morning. The ‘no walking on ski trail’ signage is up; along with the names of the walking trails, with a map so walkers can locate trails. AND… they were being used! Chatted with a family, and saw another group, who set out walk from the lot, saw the signs, checked the map and left. Thank you park staff!

Birch was bumpin’ today — obviously the place to be for skiers, fat bikers and snowshoers. The classic tracks and the skate base were very hard and fast. Fortunately they had received a very thin dusting of fresh snow to keep things manageable for ascending and descending… but the day was warming up and conditions were getting a little more,…[Read more]

  • Skied Lime Kiln this morning. You will have to step out of the tracks occasionally but still an enjoyable ski. Snow was firm and fast.

Conditions are very icy, and some of the snow we packed and groomed has disappeared in the +8 C temperatures. The only snow this week was a dusting of snow yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to make the trails less treacherous. I’d postpone your visit until more snow comes, as we want people to have positive experiences when they visit!

  • We’re trying to keep the ice at bay and so far, so good. Overheard a recreational skier say “a little icy but not too bad”. That will have to do until we’re blessed with more snow. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

  • Skied Esker and Kiln today – the little snow that we had on Thursday night covered up the leaves and made it a really nice ski. There are still a few bad patches, but for the most part, the trails were in good shape and made for a very enjoyable classic ski

  • Trail update Dec 3, 2021 – trails are groomed and in good condition and have held up well with the recent warm temperatures. We had a skiff of snow the evening of Dec 2, making skiing fast but not icy. The field portion has a good covering of snow and only a few strands of straw stubble poking up now. Just slow down over the road crossing at “bee…[Read more]

Thursday at noonish we skied Lime Kiln. It was similar to spring conditions, with thin sections from yesterday’s melt. It was icy, firm and fast; but skiable if you don’t mind hopping out of the tracks often to avoid debris, grass, rocks and churned up mud. The worst parts were nearer the stables, the optional loop, and just past the shack. We…[Read more]

  • After the melt, the classic trails are very icy in the forested area between SJR and the baseball diamond field. Small section down to the grass on SJR field. Looking forward to more snow, but happy to be able to ski at all!

  • After that big melt yesterday the skate lanes are being renovated today. classic tracks will remain icy until the next snowfall. We will have all the trails in best possible shape by later this afternoon

  • I just returned from a skate ski around the Wildewood Golf course and the loop to SJR. Slow but easy to set an edge. Classic tracks are almost all skied in. Enjoy before the melt. H

  • I just came back from BHP. I started skiing on chickadee from the parking lot to the tower and then I took esker to the horses barn and then esker to the tower and then chickadee to the parking lot. I started at 8PM. The fist part of chickadee had some patches without snow. Then, on Esker close to the Barn there were also some patches without…[Read more]

Looking to move up from early season flat land skiing and wanting to try some hills? Then go to Birch where I found the conditions, both classic and skate, to be very good. It was snowing heavily as I departed so bodes well for weekend skiing here and Pumpkin Creek. Bonus, Birch club membership is now available on Zone4.

  • As I turned into the restaurant parking lot today at around noon, I noticed a translucent shimmering wall of light ahead of me. As I drove through it I experienced a momentary flicker of vertigo, and then I passed into a parallel universe, as I found the trail conditions much less dire than described by others.
Esker to the lookout is very, very,…[Read more]

  • Conditions are good. Not too icy. A bit challenging for beginners in spots but good overall. Some lights are out so use caution when night skiing, please. Enjoy!

I’ve been going out to BHP every day on the West Blue Stem. I start at the Chickadee parking lot and head west past the warm up hut until reaching thicker sections of leaves and debris. Then I turn around and go back to the parking lot. You have to lift your skis and step out of the tracks at times but overall it’s a very enjoyable ski with good…[Read more]

Birds Hill Park, Monday afternoon, 0°, skate ski on the Group Use Road.
My review is much more positive than Anthony’s review from yesterday morning, possibly because he skied at a much colder temperature (harder snow) than me, or possibly because I had a few millimetres (not centimetres) of new snow on top. Even at 0°, edging into the e…[Read more]
