Birds Hill Provincial Park 1 month, 3 weeks agoI was out at 7:20 a.m. Mon. -1c. Chickadee had lots of footprints so I turned around and did West Bluestem in reverse direction. Still in pretty good shape and icy/crusty at that time of day. Lots of double poling and a very satisfying ski with effortless glide.
Good snow base so who knows how long it will last. -

Birds Hill Provincial Park 1 month, 4 weeks agoGreat ski Saturday morning on Bluestem, Esker, Lime Kiln and Aspen! Conditions were firm and super-fast when we started, but softening by noon. Lots of skiers out there enjoying the beautiful sunny day, and possibly last classic outing. Hope it cools off enough so the trails will still be skiable!

Bittersweet 1 month, 4 weeks agoThe skate trails will be groomed early Sunday morning. Conditions for skating will be best likely until late-morning Sunday when they will start getting slower and sticky.

Birds Hill Provincial Park 1 month, 4 weeks agoFriday 6-9pm. Classic tracks good, icy and some side crust in sunny sections, hard snow in shaded. Red wax worked well over a 15 km ski. GUR skate track looked awesome. Not many people out at the best time of evening. Would have stayed longer to do some skate skiing after dark , but did not pack donuts and coffee. Dumb… Fail…

Bittersweet 1 month, 4 weeks agoRobin egg blue sky, pristine white snow and excellent groomed trails made for a very enjoyable ski today. Tracks are holding up nicely and are well formed. Birds Hill Provincial Park 2 months agofriday 815 am start: lime kiln-esker-eastern aspen. very good to excellent conditions. tracks were impeccable and it was crisp and flowy. best time to go is the (early) morning. although snow coverage is plenty, the warm temps will be turning this into ‘mashed potatoes’ real soon. enjoy while you can !

Looks like skiing isn’t over yet. The park staff have pulled out all the stops and made the trails a priority. Please come out and enjoy your long weekend on Birds Hills many trails.

Birds Hill Provincial Park 2 months agoThurs. 1:45 -2 c. Groomer heading east on Bluestem from Chick lot.Esker was not groomed as of 2:00.Did west Bluestem.Snow was a bit sticky, sometimes clumping a bit underfoot.Overall good and should set up well overnight.

Birds Hill Provincial Park 2 months agoAccording to a post in “A Cross Country Ski Club” Facebook group today at 1:00 PM:
“Trails are groomed. From Chickadee lot; Chickadee, Aspen, GUR groomed, bluestem not yet. Roads bare pavement”

In addition, Someone in the “Grooming Reports” Facebook chat called the park around 12:30 park staff reported “trails are groomed”. They did not indicate to what extent.

Bittersweet 2 months agoWe received 15 cm of snow Wednesday. We are in the process of grooming the trails today and hope to finish late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Conditions should be great for Friday!

Bittersweet 2 months agoWe received ~13 cm of snow Sunday. All classic and skate trails are groomed and in good condition. All hills are open, but be cautious on the big hills (Badger, Whitetail, Coyote, Timberdoodle) as the track was not lifted as it usually is. Expect the skate trail to be soft Tuesday.

Bluestem, Chickadee, Aspen, Esker, Lime Kiln: 1 cm of fine grained snow fell on the trail system overnight, so the previously icy/ice tracks now have a nice soft surface. Yes, quite the afternoon in BHP. Skate track glide improved a lot probably due to the snow filling in the pores made by all the suns rays and also covered all the dirty snow .
