There is an 8K long, elongated oval trail along the parkway between Churchill Drive and the Red River. The trail begins at the pumphouse behind the Churchill Drive / Jubilee Avenue / Cockburn Street South intersection, which is ~1block east of the famous BDI (and the Elm Park Bridge). The trail continues along the parkway until it makes a large loop around the community gardens behind the Riverview Health Centre, and then heads back to the trailhead, also along the parkway. Some areas are well-treed while some is open. The trail is sometimes extended to the Canoe & Kayak Club near Churchill High School.
These trails are groomed by Riverview Jackrabbits volunteers when conditions, including availability of grooming equipment, permits. The trails serve the Riverview Jackrabbits program and community (and other) skiers.
The Alpine II used to groom the Riverview/Churchill Drive Parkway is in the shop getting repaired after a very significant breakdown on November 30. The volunteers who groom the trails do not have access to another machine for grooming the trails at this time. We do not have an estimated time of completion for the repairs at this time. Some classic trails were groomed at some point. Not enough snow in some parts, showing a lot of grass and leaves. It’s rough because of the sledding and walking, but not totally unskiiable. Most of the track is skier-tracked. The skate is in OK condition, much better than the classic.
