There is an ~8K elongated oval trail along the parkway between Churchill Drive and the Red River that is tracked for classic skiing. A smaller part is packed for skate skiing. The trail begins at the pumphouse behind the Churchill Drive / Jubilee Avenue / Cockburn Street South intersection, which is ~1block east of the famous BDI (and the Elm Park Bridge). The trail continues along the parkway until it makes a large loop around the community gardens behind the Riverview Health Centre, and then heads back to the trailhead, also along the parkway. Some areas are well-treed while some is open. The trail loop can be accessed anywhere along Churchhill Drive.
These trails are groomed by volunteers. Donations can be made to the Riverview Community Centre.
I heard this was groomed around the 13th. Today trails were skied in, a few places were blown in by all the wind, but overall a fun ski. Worth the trip.
Skiied the trails this morning and they were in great shape! Very recently groomed and minimal people tracks. It was my first time there, what a gem right here in the city! Thanks to all the groomers and volunteers.
From Friederike von Aweyden on Tuesday afternoon:
Freshly groomed at 3 pm. Double tracked for Classic. Skate deck is still a little soft but both are in good condition. Thank you groomer Darryl!
