Trails in the older more sheltered areas are in fair condition.
Trails out in the open have many icy spots and are in poor condition except for the one that is closest to the lake which is in fair condition.
There’s also a trail on the lake near the golf course. It is a little bit snowed in but would improve with some traffic.
No grooming…[Read more]

The golf course trails were groomed today.
I’m surprised at how well the trails have held up. Overall I would say that conditions are fair but inconsistent is a better way to describe it.
The older more sheltered part of the golf course is the best but still has a few thin spots and some icy stretches. The newer more open areas have less…[Read more]

Significant melting today means that the trails on the golf course may be in poor condition. Alot of the thin spots are now bare grass. I will give it a closer inspection on the weekend but likely I cannot groom until new snow arrives.
Meanwhile, ski trails were added to both the east and west end of Crescent lake. Some areas worked well but…[Read more]

Skate skied around the entire lake yesterday (7-8 km) in about an hour. Met numerous snowshoers and classic skiers along the route. The edge of the lake, Gary classic groomed look very good, as he chose the deep snow close to the bank along the golf course. When you get to the southwest end of the lake where the bullrushes begin, climb the 4…[Read more]

All trails on the Portage Golf Course have been regroomed today. There are about 6 km total. Conditions have improved since last time but there are still a few thin spots to watch out for.
Several people have requested a trail on the lake so I added about 4.5 km just offshore of the golf course.
Enjoy the trails!

The light snow we got over the last two days have actually improved the trails a bit. Be careful for the thin spots but enjoy the trail.

What about the lake? The snow blew away and hard drifts and soft drifts formed so it is no longer ideal for skate skiing. Any skiing on the lake is now somewhat risky. However, the trails behind the lake are great for snowshoeing walking and other activities plus there is good shelter from the winds. We tracked them with snowshoes yesterday,…[Read more]

Trails were set on the Portage Golf Course today. The snow conditions are quite varied, some nice areas but some blown clean to the grass. So some of the fairways have decent trails but it was tough to connect from one fairway to another without contacting the turf. There will be a few spots to shuffle around but some good skiing otherwise.

The lake has snow on it again after the big melt, and people are doing both classic and skate (and cycling, hockey, snowshoeing) on both the Crescentview side and the Yellowquill side. Although there is no grooming, you can ski on a two to 8 cm. base on most of the lake provided you don’t mind the flatness. The snow is knitted to the ice. The…[Read more]

Crescent Lake is suitable for skiing. The little bit of snow that we have had and the slight melting and freezing has left the surface of the lake with a nice even layer of snow. Just leave just enough texture for skate or classic. If you’re starting from the Island Park causway there’s about 6 km of lake either direction.
There is not enough…[Read more]

Portage Junkyard Dogs will be grooming trails at the Portage Golf Course this winter. Typically there are about 4 or 5 trail loops that are made that add up to about 6 km of trail. I will be posting updates here of trail conditions.
