City of Winnipeg parks

  • Went to Harbour View this morning (Sunday). The trails were probably groomed some time ago and were ok. The light snow this morning made it nicer to ski, instead of old, packed snow. Only one small area of exposed grass. The trail is only 3 km long, so you have to go around more than once for a decent time.

From Wayne Cunningham on Wednesday afternoon:
Kildonan Park is not groomed yet.

    • I fully agree with that. Been numerous times this year and if you ask me, I believe they have only groomed once this year so far. Definitely something wrong with that. They used to manage their trails much better in previous years and they even have “Come use our public cross country ski trails” on their ticker sign on main street which one…[Read more]

  • Skied Kildonan Park Wednesday night. Despite wet(ish) snow, some of the fastest snow i have been on this year. Just too bad for the sloppy trails. Does anyone know why the city isn’t grooming like they used to on weekends? Lack of snow? I doubt its that because it seems like there is enough in the parks and surely they could do something or…[Read more]

  • Skied Kildonan park classic tracks tonight. Tracks are holding quite well. Fast conditions and a little spotty with debris here and there, but overall, good. Looking forward to a small dump of snow this week!

  • KP – forgot to mention, don’t try your luck going under the bridges to the north side of the golf course as there are lots of open and exposed areas of rock, gravel, sand, twigs, etc. Access it from the hill close to main street. Also, while out on the golf course, careful on those newer skis as there a few spots to watch out for with underlying…[Read more]

  • Skied Kildonan Park golf course last night. Tracks are getting thinner in depth and the nice weather has melted away some from the top but tracks are in decent condition despite this. Tracks are still nice and firm and even though it’s been used heavily by the amount of skiers, most of the tracks in the course are quite crisp! Lots of fun. Get…[Read more]

  • Drove through St V park yesterday on the way home… lots of people out skiing, trails from what I could see from road side looked pretty thin and showed the lack of snow…

Skied Kildonan Park today. Large swaths of track along the walkway are destroyed by foot traffic. Encountered sleds being pulled over the tracks, etc. KP was crazy busy. General consensus is that the tracks on the KP golf course are fairing better.

Skid living prairie yesterday, I would not recommend it. Lots of grass and brush growing up through the trails there is just not enough snow.

First time ever skiing Kildonan Park this afternoon, did a quick loop of the side off the parking lot but did not cross under the train line. It has been very well used, saw a number of people out enjoying the trail. Tracks are set, although ski more like they were skied in, which may be because of how many people have been on them. Good snow…[Read more]

New this year is a groomed loop trail in Whittier Park, which was set just today (Sunday). Not sure if it’s the City that did it, or the Festival du Voyageur people, or if its just a test to see if it will be popular. It is a popular destination for dog walkers, who I hope will respect the trail, although the trail was not even 20 minutes old and…[Read more]

Had hoped to try out the Tall Grass Prairie loop yesterday morning, unfortunately we were not able to distinguish the xc path from the walking path and a lot of the snow had drifted exposing grass/ground. Oh well! Went to Beaudry instead
