Beautiful winter wonderland at Birch with tons of snow. Grooming was very good, particularly classic tracks. Was snowing lightly as I left.

A few days of packing and grooming mean that our south loop is in really good shape, and the shorter North 2.5, as well. The longer North 5 is not open yet. There’s a race on Sunday from 1-2pm, but other than that, if the roads are good, come out for a ski at Birch!

Thanks to this currently occurring snowfall, Ski Birch will be opening for the season on Saturday, Dec. 17th. We are hosting the Provincial Team’s Canada Winter Games Selection Races from 1-2:30 on Saturday, and from 11 – 12:30 on Sunday, so the South Loop will be closed to recreational skiers during those times. The North Loop will still be o…[Read more]

Just talked to groomer Derek -> Ski Birch is not yet ready for skiing. We need about 10cm more snow. When Birch is ready, it will be posted here.
By the way, grooming equipment got a big upgrade this past year and it is ready to go once we get more snow.
And looking forward to the Birchkin Pumpski recreational ski from Birch to Pumpkin Creek…[Read more]

We’re still waiting on some more snow before we’re able to open up the trails for the season. Check back here, or on social media @xcskibirch, for updates.

We had a good ski at Birch yesterday: we did laps of both North and South trails. The only detail I’d add to Birch’s update below is that there is still a ton of snow here! There were only one or two tiny patches of ground peeking through, in exposed areas of North loop. The South loop is perfect and everywhere forested should be good for a whi…[Read more]

Was able to put down 10k of shallow-ish classic tracks this morning. Tried touching up the skate deck but our drag didn’t do much to the crust. It’ll be skate able (I did it yesterday evening), but not great. Spring skiing – you take what you can get. Check our social media @xcskibirch for pics.

Couldn’t resist a visit to Birch after our ski at Pumpkin Creek, and it was fantastic. The grooming was fresh and it was excellent, as always. Truly, Birch’s grooming has been consistently some of the best anywhere in the province this year.
We skied a couple of loops of the south trails. It was such a wonderful warm day to fly down those loo…[Read more]

Fresh groom for the South Loop and the North 2.5. Just about as much shovelling drifts as grooming today 😅 Phew!

Still working out some snowmobile issues @xcskibirch. We’ve been able to groom all of the trails for skate-skiing, but no classic tracks at this point.

Our snowmobile started having issues only half way through our first pass of the trails today. So… unfortunately no fresh grooming until either: 1) Ol’ Goldie gets fixed up (shes’ at the mechanics now), or 2) The new sled we’ve ordered arrives – whichever comes first. We’ll keep you posted.

Lots of people out at Birch today for the continuing epic Birchkin Pumpski week and the race on the South trails. The Birchkin Pumpski trail will be around tomorrow and then at the whimsy of future snowfalls, so if you wanted to do it before its gone, Sunday would be a good day to do it.
Thanks for all the veterans and newcomers skiing the…[Read more]

Ski Birch will be hosting the Birch Open MB Cup Skate Ski Race on Saturday. Registration for this opens Thursday (see CCSAM site for more details). This means our South Loop will be closed from approximately 1 – 3PM. The Chalet will also be reserved for race officials and volunteers, but the bathrooms via the backdoor, will still be available f…[Read more]

Skied the Birchkin Pumpski trail system on Saturday and was very impressed with the trails and grooming. If you want a trail system that is a little more challenging than BHP get out to Birch and enjoy their classic and skate skiing trails.

Skied a solo and very chilly Birchkin Pumpski this afternoon! Maybe the first person to do so, if the finisher’s log is to be believed.
The Birch grooming was stellar, the Pumpkin Creek grooming was very good, and the connection was pretty good also (some drifting in open areas, to be expected). The big long descents were absolutely perfect f…[Read more]

The 2022 Birchkin Pumpski will be going ahead in a slightly stretched out sort of way. The connection trail between Ski Birch and Pumpkin Creek will be open on Thursday, Jan. 6th and will stay open until Saturday, Jan. 15th. You can still come to ski this route on the original event date, Jan 8th, but unfortunately there will be no start-time,…[Read more]
