The Lac du Bonnet Cross Country Ski Club maintains 11K of classic ski trails in the Agassiz Provincial Forest. The trails consist of four chained loops that gently wind through rolling gravel ridges surrounded by pine and spruce bogs, with the occasional poplar bluff.
The trailhead is located on the south side of Hwy 317, 15 km west of Lac du Bonnet or 34 km east of the junction of Hwy 59 & Hwy 317 (or 80 km NE of the Perimeter Hwy & Hwy 59). There is no signage on Hwy 317, but the parking lot can be seen from the highway. Trail maps are provided at the trailhead, and all trails have excellent signage.
There is a shelter and toilet on the Blue loop (see the map — click the “Maps” link, below), but the shelter has only three walls and does not have a stove, although there is a fire pit in front of it. The map shows a shelter and toilet at the trailhead — the shelter doesn’t exist — the toilet is a port-a-potty.
The Charleswood Ski Club and Nature Manitoba have organized outings to the Agassiz Provincial Forest ski trails, and they have consistently reported good grooming; the trails appear to be track-set often.
