Provincial Sprints Race Notice UPDATE

The CCSAM Provincial Sprints (Jan. 28th) technique has changed to Free (skate) technique

Trail/snow conditions have proven unsuitable for setting classic tracks for (high speeds) sprints. The crew at Falcon Ridge with great effort has been able to set up an excellently groomed course for skate technique.

With this change in mind registration deadline for the Falcon Combined has been extended to Thursday, Jan. 26th at 12 noon.

The CCSAM Provincial Sprints will showcase an exciting new sprint format known as King’s Court which has been used in cup races in Canmore and Thunder Bay.
Attached are the rules and format for Kings Court to share with coaches and athletes.

A note about the Falcon Combined: This a great opportunity to experience a full range of Nordic Events both in Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon. On day one, the new format of CCSAM Provincial Sprint Championship is King’s Court where every heat matters towards final placing as per age categories and the competition is coed. This format has been run successfully in Canmore and Thunder Bay in cup races this year. Following awards, the Biathlon Range will be open courtesy of Biathlon MB for those 11+ who wish to experience shooting for the first time.

For day two if you have ever dreamed of participating in a Biathlon event we have developmental categories set up in Sunday’s Biathlon MB’s sprint race. You will also have an opportunity to see our Biathletes in action who have been making their mark this year with impressive performances across Canada.

Finally, as a family Nordic center Falcon Ridge is fantastic! Downhill skiing, snowboarding, tubing and of course cross country skiing is right there. Falcon Ridge has a warm chalet with a restaurant and (often) live music.
