Provincial Government Funding Opportunities

Recreation and Regional Services – Manitoba – Many grant programs here. Funding is available for recreation leadership, building or improving facilities to putting plans in place for community projects and programs. Here are some:

  • Community Places Program – Provides funding and planning assistance to non-profit community organizations for facility construction, upgrading, expansion or acquisition. Eligible projects are those which provide sustainable recreation and wellness benefits to communities.
  • Lighthouses – Provides funding support to provide youth with positive community based social and recreation activities including sports and arts in the after school time period at schools, community facilities and recreation centres.
  • Neighbourhoods Alive – Community Youth Recreation – Works to support enhanced youth recreation programming in rural communities.
  • Manitoba Sport Opportunities Program – This program helps sport and recreation organizations with sports equipment costs and recreation facility improvements that support community-based sports programs for children and youth.

Community Services & Recreation

  • CAAWS – Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport. Annual Stacey Levitt Scholarship & WISE fund.
  • Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation – Enhances First Nations communities and its people through contributions that will be of benefit socially, culturally, healthfully, and economically in a holistic manner. The foundation accepts grant applications in the areas of sports and recreation, educational support, arts and culture, and health support.
  • Good Life Kids – Supports initiatives that provide opportunity for sustainable physical activity, primarily focused on children ages 4 to 14 years. Only registered charities, qualified donees (as identified under the Income Tax Act) and elementary schools are eligible.
  • Jumpstart – Canadian Tire Jumpstart is dedicated to removing barriers, so children can participate in organized sport and recreation. Applications for assistance can be submitted from January 15 to June 1 for spring/summer programs, and from July 1 to November 1 for fall/winter programs. Call 1-877-616-6600.
  • Kids Sport – KidSport™ is national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that helps to remove barriers and assist less fortunate children participate in sport – so all kids can play.
  • Manitoba Community Services Council – Grant funding and fundraising opportunities for equipment, operational and capital costs related to non-profit facilities and programs.
  • Manitoba in Motion
  • Manitoba Lotteries Community Support – For nonprofit community organizations through the Casinos of Winnipeg Bingo Volunteer Program. Small Capital Sponsorship Program – supporting small capital projects that focus on benefiting the community at large.
  • MEC Community Contributions Grant – March & September deadlines
  • N7 Fund – The N7 Fund is committed to inspiring and enabling participation in sport for Native American and Aboriginal populations in North America.
  • National Bank One For Youth Regional Committees – up to $15,000 per project.
  • RBC Community – Helping communities around the world by funding many different initiatives through donations and sponsorships.
  • RCMP Foundation – Funds youth-based community groups in their efforts to support community policing and instilling national pride, ultimately creating safer communities.
  • Recreation Connections Manitoba — SoGo Active Community Challenge micro grants
  • Regional Health Authorities – May have special funds to support healthy living initiatives including physical activity, healthy eating, smoking reduction and injury prevention. Contact your local RHA for more details.
  • Sport Manitoba Grants – many Community Sport Development grant opportunities.
  • Sunova Community Investment Program – Focus on initiatives and events that support sports and recreation with an emphasis on youth and young families. Deadlines: Feb 28, Jun 30 & Oct 31 annually.
  • Winnipeg Foundation – Approximately half of the Foundation’s grantmaking dollars are awarded in response to requests from community organizations, through applications to their grant programs.
