Provincial Government Funding Opportunities

  • Manitoba GO website – Comprehensive list of all provincial government grants, including Building Sustainable Communities and Arts, Culture and Sport grants.

Community Services & Recreation

  • Canadian Paralympic Committee – Paralympic Sport Development Fund & Para Sport Jumpstart Fund
  • Canadian Parks and Recreation Association Funding – Gender Equity, Removing Barriers, Youth Employment grants. Various funding programs and deadlines.
  • Community Incentive Grant – City of Winnipeg grant program (50% cost share). Year round submissions accepted 2 weeks ahead of Committee meetings (see website for schedule).
  • CO-Op Community Spaces – Co-op awards $2 million to projects across Western Canada every year. The program helps build places for everyone to come together to meet, play, learn and share.
  • Canadian Women & Sport – WISE fund – creating equitable opportunities for women and girls to participate and lead in the sport system.
  • Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation – Enhances First Nations communities and its people through contributions that will be of benefit socially, culturally, healthfully, and economically in a holistic manner. The foundation accepts grant applications in the areas of sports and recreation, educational support, arts and culture, and health support.
  • Good Life Kids – Supports initiatives that provide opportunity for sustainable physical activity, primarily focused on children ages 4 to 14 years. Only registered charities, qualified donees (as identified under the Income Tax Act) and elementary schools are eligible.
  • Jumpstart – Canadian Tire Jumpstart is dedicated to removing barriers, so children can participate in organized sport and recreation. See website for various funding programs and deadlines.
  • Kids Sport – KidSport™ is national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that helps to remove barriers and assist less fortunate children participate in sport – so all kids can play.
  • Manitoba Lotteries Community Support – For CRA registered charities or nonprofit organizations. 
  • N7 Fund – The N7 Fund is committed to inspiring and enabling participation in sport for Native American and Aboriginal populations in North America.
  • RBC Community – Helping communities around the world by funding many different initiatives through donations and sponsorships.
  • Regional Health Authorities – May have special funds to support healthy living initiatives including physical activity, healthy eating, smoking reduction and injury prevention. Contact your local RHA for more details.
  • Sunova Community Investment Program – Focus on initiatives and events that support sports and recreation with an emphasis on youth and young families. Deadlines: Feb 28, Jun 30 & Oct 31 annually.
  • Trails Manitoba Grant Program – for development and enhancement of recreational trails throughout Manitoba 2021 through 2024.
  • Winnipeg Foundation – Approximately half of the Foundation’s grantmaking dollars are awarded in response to requests from community organizations, through applications to their grant programs.

Funding for Schools

  • Manitoba Educational Funding/Grants – Manitoba Government webpage with all grant programs & announcements – not necessarily sport or equipment related.
  • S’Cool Life Fund – The average grant is under $5,000. A limited number of projects will be funded at $10,000. The application period runs from September 15 to December 31. Supports DREAMS – Drama, Recreation, Extra-Curricular, Arts, Music, or Sports – for public elementary schools (K – 8).
